Corral Housing
Historic Revival Comunity Housing
2019
Historic Multifamily Landmark remodel in the urban center of Seville, Spain. It showcases the restoration and remodeling of a historic "corral de vecinos," a traditional community housing structure that dates back to 1859. This type of housing, commonly found in European medieval cities, features a central courtyard and corridor surrounded by individual living units, often with shared facilities like kitchens. In the remodeling process, the original architectural essence and typology were preserved, maintaining the geometric layout and communal atmosphere. The facade was modernized using a combination of wood, stone, and stucco, adding warmth and elegance while respecting the historical context. The contrast between the dark metal elements and lighter tones of the walls further enhances the visual appeal. The before-and-after images illustrate the significant transformation. The old, deteriorated structure with its aged paint, exposed brick, and outdated railings was revitalized into a contemporary, efficient living space. Features like wooden doors, wrought iron railings, and a polished floor finish now offer a clean and modern aesthetic while maintaining the building's historical charm. This project serves as an excellent example of adaptive reuse, providing modern community housing while preserving the cultural heritage of the original corral de vecinos.
